"Actually, almost anything you see with Calvin and Hobbes on it is copyright infringement. Here is the complete list of things Bill Watterson has approved for mass production:
  • Books
  • Two calendars (1988-1989 and 1989-1990)
  • A textbook called Teaching with Calvin and Hobbes
  • One t-shirt for a traveling art exhibit"

"I’m still searching for the 'Teaching With Calvin And Hobbes'. If I’m not mistaken the authors both taught in North Dakota and you would think there would be a couple copies floating around the state somewhere. So far no luck though."

10 November 2008 - The Auction Rebel

"There was an eighteenth Calvin and Hobbes book by Linda Holmen and Mary Santella-Johnson published in 1993. The book is titled 'Teaching With Calvin And Hobbes' and it used Calvin And Hobbes comic strips in conjunction with original text by the authors to teach special needs students.

"It was published under special license by a children’s book publisher in Fargo, North Dakota in a limited press run of 2500 copies that were only sold to teachers and educational specialists. These are extremely rare..."

"A friend of mine sister borrowed a book out of my resource pile titled How to teach with Calvin and Hobbes. She had borrowed it for a few months and I finally asked if she was done with it, etc... I decided to look it up at Amazon to see if I could maybe order another one, so they could keep it (they are Calvin and Hobbes freaks!) I was a little (okay a lot) shocked at how much a replacement cost would be... Needless to say, she found it quickly and I put it under lock and key at my house... Who knew a teacher book could become so expensive and worth so much!!"

"To this day, other than the collected books (of which there are 18) the only other official merchandise has been two calendars, a T-shirt (made for the Great American Comics: 100 Years of Cartoon Art event) and a 1993 schools textbook 'Teaching With Calvin and Hobbes' which received just one print run and thus remains of ludicrous value to collectors everywhere."

"Bill Watterson has notoriously strong anti-merchandising sentiments and also shuns the spotlight. Consequently, besides two calendars and a children's textbook, there are no authorised Calvin and Hobbes merchandise.

"The official merchandise that was released (and are no longer available) fetch huge prices when they appear on eBay and other auction sites."
